Pulau Semakau Public Walk on 11th June
Thursday, June 11, 2009 / 2:36 PM

Again,I headed to Pulau Semakau, this time with small kids, their parents and girls from Paya Lebar Methodist Girl's school(I did not have the pleasure of being the assistant guide for their group).

MOVING ON!After a rather slow and boring boat ride from Marina South Pier at 5am in the morning,we reached the jetty which everyone mentioned in the About section of our blog will know by now(breaking the fourth wall). What strikes me as incredible is the sunrise(but my camera was wouldn't start up,so I had to walk to the intertidal area without snapping pictures,WHY OF ALL TIMES MUST THIS ERROR HAPPEN!!!).

After another rather generous blood donation I gave to the mosquitoes,I followed July's group to meet our FIRST animal of the day.

We saw this little critter moving around. All the little runts think this is a stingray! But it's not,for it is a Coastal Horseshoe crab(my first time seeing any of these in Pulau Semakau).Another message to all the other little runts out there, the tail IS NOT VENOMOUS!It is just used to try and flip the horseshoe crab should it be upside down.Remember,it's been here for about 400 million years,so you're looking at a living fossil.Even dinosaurs didn't survive that fireball I sent.
(Mistake:This is a mangrove horseshoe crab! The tail is not jagged.Thx LK for correcting this)

Lookie here.A dragonfish sea cucumber and a juvenile Cushion star!Again, the sea cucumber is NOT the one we eat during chinese new year.If you do eat this, make sure you reserve a place in Choa Chu Kang. You'll be staying there...FOREVER!

I can't believe we saw this many common sea stars!I had to look at the ground all the time just to avoid stepping on these stars that do not shine in the sky.(on the path to the coral area,we saw at least 26,that's actually alot for an inter-tidal area).

Jinyi's favourite sea star. It's a knobbly sea star!Really,I wish we would start seeing more than just one each trip.

As the co-admin of this blog,it brings me great honor to give you a picture of the backside of the Knobbly sea star. You're all welcome,by the way.

It's a giant clam!In the larval stage after external fertilization, the puny little larval swims in the ocean till it finds a proper substrate to anchor itself unto, and then stays at that spot for the rest of its life, thats why you can always find the clam at the same place.Poor clam...it stays there forerver.

After hearing the Paya Lebar Methodist Girls group scream(yes, they have the uncanny ability to scream at everything, even water),we went to see what the commotion is about and we saw that it is a rather aggresive flower crab.We figured it was a male(I tried to touch it,it nearly pinched me)by the shape of the abdomen.Guess what, this aggresive male was snapping at us while we snap photos at him.Man,he's furious!

After that,it was time to wash up.By the way,the guide is July and he's on the very right of this photo(The dude wearing glasses).Yes,Jin Yi,he's the guy who you followed on our last hunting seeking session.
