Pulau Semakau Public Walk on 1st June
Monday, June 8, 2009 / 9:43 PM ♥
On the boat trip back to Mainland Singapore,31st May after our rather disastrous trip to Pulau Semakau,Luan Keng, one of our coordinaters asked me(Remus Koh)if I want to join them for a Public Walk on 1st June.Since I pretty much had nothing else to do(and I wanted to skip Wushu training),I went. I arrived at 7.30pm in the morning(and I fell asleep at Marina South Pier)and after deciding if I want to do hunting seeking or follow a group,I went to follow a guide who guided me,Jin Yi and Natalya in Pulau Semakau last year:Siyang.Well, after I got into the group,I kinda asked if I can be an assistant guide for the group, and well, the rest is history.(Btw,the group I got into was Upside-down jellyfish, which is different from the group last year,Hermit Crabs). Blah blah blah,I shall skip to the intertidal walk. This are oysters. They all gather here to dry up and die(only kidding). There ARE some anemone in here, but they are all shriveled up so you can't see them. The picture is not clear, dunno why. We saw our first MOVING creature,a mangrove horseshoe crab. These little critters have been here for 400 million years and they survived the fireball I summoned to Earth at 400,000,000 BC. Moving on,we saw this rather nice animal.Anyone who can guess what it is gets a cookie.(Hint:This is ______bob Squarepants) This is a carpet anemone. Please don't use it as your carpets.Apparently,Nemo isn't in there,so we decided to touch it.Mind,if you touch it,the tentacles will stick to you.Really.This is because it is shooting venomous spines at you.Since we humans are much more thick skinned than our distant relatives, the sea dwellers,we feel a sticky feeling rather than a fiery sensation. No,it's not Patrick Star.Patrick is pink. This is his species,a sea star, better known by a name thought up by the younger generations as a starfish.Guess what.Their "brain" is their skin!I guess that's why Patrick is smarter than all you people. This is a find made by me(it's my first find in the role of an assistant guide). It's a dog whelk with an anemone hitching a ride behind it's back.FREELOADER! This is a picture of our guide and some of the group members.Yes,he is Siyang. This was the group photo of the traditional knobbly sea star last year.Yes,we were all Sec 2 during that good time.I was next to Tze Hsien(next to Natalya, green PE Shirt). This is a hairy crab. It's known for clinging onto rocks with those sharp legs of theirs.Don't eat it,it's poisonous.(Common mistakes about poisonous and venomous.Poisonous is when you eat it and die.Venomous is when it bites you and you die). This is a picture of knobbly sea stars and cushion stars.I stepped on a moon snail, hoped he survived :(. It's a flatworm! One of the beautiful coloured worms nature created. It's actually flat, hence it's name and this worm is about the size of my pinkie finger,5 times smaller. We saw a sea cumumber, but I didn't take a picture because my camera batt. is running low. Then I remembered I still had my handphone(D'OH!). On the 31st of May,it was one of the guides,(July's) birthday. He celebrated it on 1st of June.So I took a picture of the birthday cake.(The cake is a lie, there is no spoon.) All in all,it was a great day.Although, the journey back was not so great because I hit my shin bone on the metal stairs at the boat. Blogged by~Remus Koh,3A3.
